Claim: Voulet and Chanoine burned cities in Africa
TRUETHE ANSWER
Their 1899 mission killed 101 at Sansanné-Haoussa (8 Jan) and slaughtered Birni-N'Konni (8 May), 'one of the worst massacres in French colonial history'. Their own troops killed both men in July 1899.
Earlier, they conquered the Mossi capital Ouagadougou in 1896-97.
